A 2 GW Indian integrated solar PV manufacturing line demands ₹2,529 Cr MEP capex with polysilicon-to-wafer + TOPCon/PERC cell line + module line + EL/Flash testing + IEC 61215 reliability lab + cleanroom utilities. PLI + IEC 61215/61730 + IS 14286 + IECEE PV-CB + ANSI ESD S20.20 govern. India PLI target 50 GW by 2026. Three failures: DI water + chemical supply under-spec, ESD control inadequate damaging cells > 100 V, climate chamber capacity below IEC 61215 TC200/HF10/DH1000 cycle requirement.

Indian solar PV manufacturing framework

India PLI (Production-Linked Incentive) for solar modules + cells targets 50 GW domestic manufacturing by 2026. Major players — Reliance Renewables + Adani + Waaree + Vikram Solar + Tata Power + Premier Energies + Goldi Solar + JSW + Renew Power. Standards stack — IEC 61215 (PV module qualification) + IEC 61730 (safety) + IS 14286 + UL 61730 + ISO 9001 + PLI MNRE Operational Guidelines + IECEE PV-CB Scheme. Manufacturing covers polysilicon → wafer → cell → module → testing. PLI mandates fully-integrated supply chain.

Three Indian solar manufacturing MEP failures

  1. DI water + chemicals supply under-spec — cell line uses 5-10 m³/hr DI water (8 MΩ·cm) + HF/HNO3/KOH chemicals. Indian PLI projects under-budget DI plant + chemical distribution. Specify dedicated DI line + segregated chemical lab + bunded storage per IEC 61215.
  2. ESD control inadequate in cell line — PERC/TOPCon cells damaged by ESD > 100 V. Specify ESD-controlled flooring + grounding bracelets + ionised air per ANSI/ESD S20.20.
  3. Climate chamber capacity below IEC 61215 cycle requirement — IEC 61215 requires TC200 (Thermal Cycle), HF10 (Humidity Freeze), DH1000 (Damp Heat 1000 hr), UV60 testing for each design. Indian labs often inadequate chamber count + face certification delays.
