Indian Modular Prefab Data Centre MEP — OCP + EN 50600 + TIA-942 + ASHRAE TC 9.9 + IEC 60068

A 2 MW Indian modular prefab DC (Schneider EcoStruxure-class) demands ₹264 Cr MEP capex with 4 × 500 kW skids + power + cooling + IT containerised; deployed in 14 weeks vs 22 months stick-built. OCP + EN 50600 + TIA-942 + ASHRAE TC 9.9 + IEC 60068 govern. Three failures: civil + utility site-prep delayed 4-8 weeks after skid delivery, generic skid not climate-optimised for Indian dust + 45°C summer, multi-vendor skid integration not factory-tested.

Indian modular prefab data centre framework

Modular prefab DCs — 40-ft container or skid-mounted DC, fully assembled offsite, installed in 12-16 weeks vs 18-24 months for stick-built. Schneider + Vertiv + Hitachi + L&T offer Indian solutions. Standards stack — Open Compute Project OCP Cooling Environments + EN 50600 + TIA-942 + Uptime + ASHRAE TC 9.9 + IEC 60068 (environmental tests for container) + India MeitY DC Policy.

Three Indian modular prefab DC failures

  1. Site preparation not aligned with skid delivery — modular skids require concrete pad + electrical + chiller water in-place at delivery. Indian sites often have civil + utility delays of 4-8 weeks after skid arrives causing storage cost + commissioning rework.
  2. Climate-specific skid not specified — Indian Tier-2 cities (Lucknow 45°C summer) need climate-specific skids; Tier-1 metros differ. Generic modular skid may not be optimised for Indian climate. Specify IEC 60068 climate envelope + India-spec dust seal.
  3. Multi-vendor skid integration not pre-tested — power skid (Schneider) + cooling skid (Vertiv) + IT skid (Dell) integration sometimes done on-site. Specify factory-acceptance-test (FAT) for full integrated module per OCP + EN 50600.
