Indian Cement Grinding Unit (CGU) + Finish-Mill MEP — CPCB + WBCSD + NCB + BIS + IEC 60034

A 1.5 MTPA Indian cement grinding unit demands ₹951 Cr MEP capex with clinker + fly-ash silos + VRM (180-220 t/hr) + 8-12 MW synchronous drive + bag-house PM < 30 mg/Nm³ + packing-dispatch. CPCB + WBCSD + NCB + IS 1489/455/269 + IEC 60034 + NFPA 654 govern. Modern VRM 22-26 kWh/t vs ball-mill 32-42 = ₹6-8 Cr/yr saving on 1.5 MTPA. Three failures: ball-mill specd for cost (uneconomic in 5 yr vs VRM), bag-house PTFE-bag replacement ₹4-6 Cr / 3-5 yr OPEX missed, silo discharge local exhaust missed causing visible dust + violation.

Indian cement grinding unit (CGU) + finish-mill framework

Indian cement industry split between integrated plants + standalone grinding units (CGU). CGU receives clinker by rail + grinds with fly-ash + slag + gypsum to produce PPC/PSC blended cement. Standards stack — CPCB Cement Norms 2022 + WBCSD CSI Sustainability + BIS IS 1489 (PPC) + IS 455 (PSC) + IS 269 (OPC) + worldcement NCB India + IEC 60034 (large drive motors) + NFPA 654 (combustible dust).

Three Indian CGU MEP failures

  1. VRM/ball mill specific-energy not benchmarked — modern VRM 22-26 kWh/t vs ball mill 32-42 kWh/t = 35-50 % electrical saving on 1.5 MTPA = ₹6-8 Cr/yr. Indian CGU greenfield projects still spec ball-mill for cost — uneconomic in 5 years.
  2. Bag-house bag-life under-budgeted — bag-house at PM < 30 mg/Nm³ depends on bag integrity. PTFE-membrane bags ₹4-6 Cr replacement every 3-5 years — easily missed in CGU OPEX. Some Indian CGUs run with leaking bags + face CPCB issue.
  3. Silo discharge + dust capture missed — bulk cement loading + bag-packing produces dust at silo bottom. NFPA 654 + CPCB require local exhaust ventilation at every drop-point. Missing it = visible dust plumes + community complaint + violation.
